Portrait screens
Last updated 2026-10-20
Some TVs are mounted on their side, to show tall banners or lobby posters. Church TV OS supports that.
Set it up
- Mount the TV on its side. (Fire TV and Google TV devices always send a normal landscape picture, so the app does the turning.)
- In the dashboard open Screens, Edit & schedule on that screen.
- Set Orientation to Portrait or Portrait (flipped) and press Save changes.
Portrait turns the picture clockwise, so it suits a TV whose normal left edge is at the bottom. Portrait (flipped) turns it the other way. If the picture is upside down, choose the other option.
Make media that fits
- Use 1080 by 1920 images and videos (tall) for portrait screens.
- Landscape media still plays, but appears small inside the tall frame, with black above and below.
- Signs made in the dashboard fit either shape. The sign editor shows a landscape and a portrait preview.
What does not rotate
YouTube items do not rotate on portrait screens. The picture stays landscape. Use an uploaded video instead, or play YouTube only on landscape screens. The dashboard reminds you of this on portrait screens and in playlists.
Screens that need more care in portrait, such as some of the Kids menus, are still being polished. If something looks off on a portrait TV, tell us at support@churchtvos.com.
